Character and Fitness

After completing law school, those who wish to practice law in Michigan, in addition to passing the Michigan Bar Examination, must prove to the State Board of Law Examiners that they possess good moral qualities and the requisite character and fitness needed to practice law.

As one of only a few Michigan Character and Fitness attorneys, Ms. Schinske can help aspiring lawyers navigate the process as they fill out the Affidavit of Personal History, disclose past actions, and seek to put their best foot forward.

Previous crimes and other contacts with law enforcement, both major and minor, as well as other lapses in integrity or fraudulent actions, could affect a person’s ability to act honorably as a lawyer. With her experience as an ethics lawyer directing bar applicants through the Character and Fitness proceedings, Ms. Schinske aids applicants with full disclosure and putting actions in the proper context. Her goal is to provide the best possible chance that your past will not prevent you from enjoying a successful future as an attorney.
